GENRE: Holiday/Christmas, Contemporary Romance
Savor the magic of the season with number-one New York Times best-selling author Debbie Macomber's newest Christmas novel, filled with warmth, humor, the promise of love, and a dash of unexpected adventure.

Ashley Davison, a graduate student in California, desperately wants to spend the holidays with her family in Seattle. Dashiell Sutherland, a former army intelligence officer, has a job interview in Seattle and must arrive by December 23. Though frantic to book a last-minute flight out of San Francisco, both are out of luck: Every flight is full, and there's only one rental car available. Ashley and Dash reluctantly decide to share the car, but neither anticipates the wild ride ahead.

At first they drive in silence, but, forced into close quarters, Ashley and Dash can't help but open up. Not only do they find they have a lot in common, but there's even a spark of romance in the air. Their feelings catch them off guard - never before has either been so excited about a first meeting. But the two are in for more twists and turns along the way as they rescue a lost puppy, run into petty thieves, and even get caught up in a case of mistaken identity. Though Ashley and Dash may never reach Seattle in time for Christmas, the season is still full of surprises - and their greatest wishes may yet come true.

MY REVIEW:

This was a wonderful holiday read, with a sweet romance and a bit of an adventure with a dash of humor mixed in!

Ashley Davidson is attending graduate school in California, and she decides to surprise her mother and fly home to Seattle for Christmas. The agent at the airport tells Ashley that she can’t sell her a ticket, and she is asked to step aside. The man behind her is in a bit of a hurry, as he also needs to get to Seattle for a job interview. Ashley decides to rent a car and drive to Seattle instead, and the guy who was in the line behind her at the airport is now also waiting to rent a car. It turns out that there is just one car left in the entire airport, given that these are the holidays. The man offers to pay for the rental and all expenses if Ashley would be willing to share the ride, but Ashley doesn’t take him up on his offer…at least not until she finds out that she cannot legally rent a car because she is under the age of 25! So, now it’s actually Ashley who has to do the grovelling if she wants to get to Seattle! Luckily, Dash Sutherland is a nice guy and sticks to his original deal.

What Ashley and Dash don’t realize is that Ashley is on the No Fly List because the FBI thinks that she is a suspected terrorist! During their journey to Seattle, the FBI is hot on their trail and it is through humorous mishaps that they evade them although the FBI thinks that Ashely is ducking them intentionally! During the road trip, the sparks also fly between Ashely and Dash.

This is my first read from Debbie Macomber, and I really enjoyed it! It was the perfect mix of fun and romance, and it was a nice “feel-good” story to get me into the holiday spirit. I can’t wait to read more from this author!

Allyson Ryan is a new-to-me narrator, and she is very enjoyable to listen to. Her pacing was bang-on, and I thought she captured the essence of the characters’ personalities perfectly!
